Setting Up the Revolution Rotary Axis with Redline Control: A Complete Guide

Optional Riser Blocks: Unlock Larger Projects

Right out of the box, your rotary is ready to go—but if you plan to machine larger diameter stock, installing the optional riser blocks is a smart first step.

The process is straightforward:

  • Remove the tailstock and chuck head from the gantry

  • Insert the keyed riser blocks (they align easily top and bottom)

  • Secure everything using the included hardware

This added height gives you more flexibility for larger projects without compromising stability.


QCW Mounting System (Recommended Setup)

If you’re using a QCW (Quick Change Wasteboard), mounting your rotary is fast and repeatable with the included hardware kit.

The system uses:

  • Mounting brackets

  • Spacers (specific to each side)

  • Locating shafts for precise alignment

Once installed:

  • The locating shafts slide into QCW-mounted brackets

  • Everything locks in place with hand screws

  • You get consistent positioning every time

This is the cleanest and most repeatable setup for production workflows.


No QCW? No Problem.

If you don’t have the QCW system, you can still achieve excellent alignment with a simple trick:

  • Use a V-bit to carve a straight reference line across your wasteboard

  • Align your rotary axis to that line

  • Mark and drill mounting holes

  • Install threaded inserts for a secure, repeatable mount

This method ensures your rotary is square to your machine—critical for accurate carving.


Plug-and-Play Wiring (Seriously, It’s That Easy)

One of the standout features of the Revolution rotary is how simple it is to connect:

  • Plug the 8-pin cable into the A-axis port

  • Connect the 3-pin homing sensor cable

  • Power on your system

Redline Controller Setup

  2. Load the Revolution Elite defaults

  3. Confirm the A-axis is enabled and reversed (as expected)

  • Home it using the built-in inductive sensor

  • Begin testing motion immediately


Loading Material & Adjusting the Tailstock

With your rotary active, it’s time to load your workpiece:

  • Secure material in the chuck using the included key

  • Adjust the tailstock along the rails

  • Tighten the support against your material

  • Lock everything firmly in place

The system includes both inward and outward jaws, giving you flexibility depending on your material size and shape.


Probing the Rotary Axis

Just like standard CNC workflows, probing ensures accuracy:

  • Position your bit over the probe center

  • Connect the probe magnet to your collet nut

  • Select Rotary Probing in the interface

  • Input your bit diameter

The system will automatically:

  • Probe Z (top surface)

  • Probe X (side)

  • Probe Y (rear)

Once complete, your work coordinates are set and ready.


Ready to Carve

After probing:

  • Raise your Z-axis to clear the chuck

  • Move to your XY start position

  • Load your file

You’re now ready to start carving in full 4-axis mode.
